The Science Behind EVOK

Nov 19, 2020

In one of our Jeunesse LIVE events earlier this year, we were treated to an educational talk by Dr William Amzallag, Director of Product Science, who walked us through the science behind EVOK in an easily accessible and entertaining way. So if you’ve ever wondered just how and why they work, here’s a quick guide.

So, what exactly are essentials oils? They are compounds extracted from plants which retain the natural smell and flavour of their source. At Jeunesse, we extract the most important part using distillation or cold pressure, and this is then called an essence – hence the term, essential oil.

The chemical in the essential oils interacts with your body in a variety of ways, and at Jeunesse, we have used the inhalation pathway (through smell) with five types of essential oils all directly linked to the five elements – fire, wood, metal, earth and water.

This combines the western Y.E.S. System of Jeunesse with the age-old elements of Chinese tradition. Combine these two philosophies, and you have EVOK!

The five EVOK Essential Oils:

·         Clarity – This reinforces our Wood element (the Chinese spring season) for a clear head and steady soul ; ingredients –  spearmint, frankincense, basil and lemon

·         Energize – This reinforces our Fire element (summer) for an invigorated spirit; ingredients – mandarin, rosemary, eucalyptus and orange

·         Enhance – This reinforces our Metal element (autumn) for tranquil transition; ingredients – illicium verum, amyris, myrrh, sandalwood, lavendin, cinnamon and cassia

·         Defend – This reinforces our Water element (winter) related to unequalled antioxidant; ingredients – cardamom, geranium, peppermint, rosemary, eucalyptus

·         Balance – This reinforces our Earth element related to uninterrupted symmetry (a fifth season which is a Chinese notion that doesn’t exist in western medicine, it stands for the transition period between all the other elements and seasons); ingredients – orange, lemon, lavendin, kananga, bergamot, clary sage, ylang ylang, vetyver, Roman chamomile .

It’s up to you which Jeunesse EVOK Essential Oils you wish to use and there are various methods to get the most out of them, which you can check out on the Facebook video. Whichever way you use them, you can be reassured that the best of western science and Chinese traditions have gone into making them a valued part of our Generation Young.
